Sony buy bungie for 3.6 billion dollars
Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the bungie purchase for 3,600 million dollars.
As explained by the Japanese company, Destiny’s responsible study will work as “an independent subsidiary” of SIE directed by a council in which the current CEO and President, Pete Parsons, and the rest of the current direction are maintained.
In addition, it has also been clarified that Bungie will remain a multiplatform study, denying that its games will be exclusive to PlayStation, with the option of “self-publishing and reaching players, wherever they choose to play.”
Jim Ryan, the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has declared that “we have a strong relationship with Bungie since the creation of the Destiny franchise, and could not be more excited to welcome the study to the PlayStation family.”
“This is an important step in our strategy to expand the scope of PlayStation to a much broader audience. We understand how vital the Bungie community is for the study, and we hope to support them while they remain independent and continue to grow. Like Bungie, our Community is central for PlayStation DNA, and our passion shared by players and how to create the best place to play will evolve even more. “
Parsons, on the other hand, added that “both Bungie and Sie believe that our game worlds are only the beginning of what our IP will be. Our original universes have an immense potential, and with the support of SIE we will become a bungie in a company of global multimedia entertainment dedicated to our creative vision. “
The advertisement of the bungie purchase is produced just a couple of weeks after Microsoft reveals the purchase of Blizzard Activision by a number close to 70,000 million dollars. Curiously Microsoft was the owner of the Bungie itself until October 2007, after having acquired it in June 2000 to guarantee halo as the exclusive of its then first console, the original Xbox.
