Benfica Lisbon separates coach Jorge Jesus
As the Portuguese top club announced on Tuesday, Jesus was released from his duties with immediate effect. His succession initially enters Nelson Fortissimo, who recently trained Benefice’s second team. Fortissimo should now look after the Benefice professionals for the time being until the end of the season — so also in the Champions League Octagonal Final against Ajax Amsterdam.
The progress in the premier class in a group with FC Bayern and the FC Barcelona, Jesus was ultimately not saved from. According to media reports, it should be after the 0: 3 at the FC Porto in the Portuguese Cup last Thursday to a compensation between the 67-year-old coach and some players. In the league, Benefice is currently only in third place behind Porto and citytrival sporting.
For Jesus, the second term of office ends as Benefice coach. Already from 2009 to 2015 he supervised the team, was then three years coaches of Rival Sporting. In August 2020 he had signed for the second time at Benefice.
